Tokyo— Nissan Motor will build a new plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico, with capacity to assemble 600,000 vehicles every year, which will allow doubling production in Mexico to reach 1.3 million units per year, the economic journal Nikkei published yesterday.

The Group is planning to invest US$2 billion in the construction of the new Factory, which will be located 6 miles from the plant they already have in Aguascalientes and is expected to start operating in late 2013.
Nissan’s spokesman, when asked by Nikkei, refused to make any comments on this information, even though he did point-out that the Group wants to expand production capacity in the region.

Nikkei says that the new plant will have three production lines, each capable of assembling 200,000 units per year, and adds that in two of those lines Nissan models will be produced, including Sentra and Note subcompacts, while the third line will be used jointly with Daimler AG.

Mexico.- In spite of a weak business environment, German companies in Mexico remain confident in Mexico, since 7 out of every 10 companies are planning to make investments in Mexico in 2012. Also, 48% of the companies are considering increasing their labor force, and 50% will keep their current staff.

The above are the results of the most recent survey made by the Mexican-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Camara Mexicano-Alemana de Comercio e Industria (Camexa) early in December among its members.
There are 1,200 German companies registered in Mexico; therefore, Germany is Mexico’s first trade partner among members of the European Union.

Camexa said that all the results concur with the replies to the survey made a year ago, which shows steady and stable development.

The global business environment of today´s global economy has made the strategic acquisition of competitive advantages an important aspect to consider when looking for outsourcing destinations. In the following paragraphs we will take a quick look at some key advantages related to outsourcing in Mexico and starting manufacturing operations.

Lower Overall Operation Cost Structure:

Besides the favorable geographic location of the country, Outsourcing in Mexico offers several competitive advantages when it comes to analyzing the cost structure of long term manufacturing projects. Important variables such as set up costs, wages, energy bills and transportation expenditures; can certainly have a big impact after a few years of starting a project AND Mexico offers excellent options to consider.

The High Value Curve and Simplicity of Outsourcing in Mexico

Outsourcing in Mexico is particularly appealing for companies whose main market is the United States of America. The reduced transportation costs and the simplicity derived from having a near shore location make it an important added bonus for businesses who need fast response times and a tight control on quality levels.

Skilled Workforce and Strategic Alliances with Local Colleges.

There are several industry clusters which have managed to profit from the strategic location of universities and academic research centers. The aerospace industry in the central region of Mexico is a good example of the synergy that may be created by private businesses, schools and government agencies working together on specific development goals.

Overall, among the large variety of destinations and factors to consider when analyzing investment projects, outsourcing in Mexico continues to be an excellent alternative to consider in these times when strategically chosen competitive advantages can make the difference between being a market leader and just being a follower.

Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.- Bombardier, one of the most important companies in the world in high technology applied to military market, may be among the companies interested in a multi-directional chassis invented and patented in this border city 15 years ago by Francisco Javier Lares, an engineer from Ciudad Juarez. Lares has made several modifications to the chassis to adapt it to different applications, since there is also interest by manufacturers of ATV’s. This chassis which goes up and down and raises one tire to run on three wheels in case of a flat tire, is capable of climbing mountains, run on sand and thick mud thanks to its reduction and expansion system to crawl as a caterpillar based on auto-distance differential system, and may also run on a highway at high speed thanks to its aerodynamic ground rolling. In addition it meets military requirements to save lives: mobility on any terrain. Harley-Davidson, the motorcycles manufacturer, could also be interested in the invention.
